هال و برام گیبن؛ فقط ایده‌ای برای تأمل بیشتر
☱ پنج استاد مسلم که یحتمل فقط استوارت هال و انتشارات فوق معتبر پالیتی می‌توانستند آن‌ها را یک جا جمع کنند، مجموعه مقالاتی در قالب کتاب درسی فراهم آورده‌اند که انتشارات دانشگاه آپن و انتشارات پالیتی، در سال ۱۹۹۲، زیر عنوان «صورتبندی‌های مدرنیت» منتشر کرده‌اند.
☱ این کتاب، بخش اول از یک چهارگانه، تحت نام کلی «مقدمه‌ای بر درک جوامع مدرن» بوده است. عنوان سه کتاب دیگر: «صورت‌های سیاسی و اقتصادی مدرنیت»، «صورت‌های اجتماعی و فرهنگی مدرنیت»، و «مدرنیت و آینده‌ی آن». استوارت هال ویراستار اول کتاب آخر هم بوده است.
☱ کتاب در شکل و قالب کتاب درسی نگارش یافته است. خصوصاً این نکته حایز اهمیت است که هر فصل با چند منتخب از متون کلاسیک خاتمه می‌یابد.
